Brief Overview of Copyright Laws
Copie
Express has developed this easy-to-follow guide on copying
policy to address the Canadian Law on copy-righted material.
Copyrighted
Works
The copyright holder has the exclusive right to reproduce
or to permit someone else to reproduce their copyrighted work.
Copie Express requires written permission from the copyright
holder in order to reproduce any copyrighted work. For your
convenience, we can provide you with a copyright permission
form.
A
Copyright Is ...
... a form of protection provided by Canadian laws to the
authors of original works. A partial listing of authors (referred
to as copyright holders) includes photographers, artists,
architects, publishers, singers, writers and composers. The
copyright Act gives people the exclusive right to reproduce,
distribute, sell, perform or display their "works"
.
Notice
Mere ownership of book, written materials, paintings, photographs
or copies of such items does not give the possessor the right
to copy them. If you are the copyright holder, ownership and
identification must be verified before Copie Express will
reproduce any materials.
Copyright
Law Applies To:
-
Pictures, Graphics & Sculptures (e.g. photographs, cartoon
characters, maps, etc.)
- Architectural Works (e.g. blueprints, etc.)
- Music and lyrics
- Literature (e.g. newspapers, magazines, cartoons, trade
journals, textbooks, etc.)
- Dramatic Works (e.g. plays, screenplays, etc.)
